I played this game for awhile a few years ago, and decided to dig it out for some mindless fun. It’s more mindless and less fun than I remember.
Although listed as a strategy and tactics game on the Steam store, Gladiator Guild Manager is an old school auto battler. There are some RPG elements that are fine – characters have stat points, special abilities, and item slots so you can customize them. On this second playthrough it was particularly noticeable that for most gladiators, there really is not a reasonable variety of options. Each character has a primary stat to level and gear around, then put in some points to the heath stat. There are some special items with unique properties that can be more interesting, but overall the rpg elements could be improved.
The battle itself is just on auto, so there is no actual strategy and tactics. The fun of the game is unlocking more buildings, heroes, and items, but that gets old relatively quick.
It’s a fine game if you want something mindless, but I put it back down even faster on the second play than I did the first time around. I give it a 5.
