I haven’t watched this season of Silicon Valley in ages, and I made it my TV pick to watch with my wife, who has never seen the series. I remembered the show fondly, but was honestly surprised by just how good this season is. The plot is super simple – there are a handful of guys living in a startup incubator who are building an app. Although the show is a comedy, this is a story driven show where every episode actively moves the plot forward. The season is only eight episodes, and in that time there is no need for the writers to come up with crazy plot twists to keep my attention.
The main characters are all unique and have excellent chemistry, which makes it easier to care about how the story plays out for them. It also helps make jokes hilarious that would just be entertaining with a different cast. It’s excellent writing, and the performances are pretty much perfect. This is an excellent season of television, and I give it a 9. The only reason I didn’t give it a 10 is because I’ve seen this show before and had forgotten how funny it is, and I can see why – the humor is mostly subtle, and most of the jokes will probably slip my mind in a few months. My favorite movies and shows live rent free in my mind all the time.
