I have been slowly working through the sixth season of Castle over the last few months. It’s often a fairly lighthearted procedural cop show, so I could leave it on while I cook or fold laundry or whatever. Recently, it became my chaser in between rounds of watching mostly horrendous DC movies. Even with some bad TV as a contrast, I’ve clearly lost interest in this series.
I enjoyed the first few seasons, and even considered making it a show to watch with the wife, which is always meant to be a higher tier. However, starting around season 4, the show felt significantly worse to me. Season 6 is, by all accounts, not bad. The acting is the same, the cases are mostly the same, and this season doesn’t shoot for too many overly dramatic episodes. But, there is just nothing about this show that makes me look forward to the next episode. Unlike a lot of procedural shows I’ve enjoyed (Elementary, House, others I’m not thinking of right now), the cases tend not to be super interesting. At this point in the series, the characters aren’t all that fun to watch either.
The best I can say is that it is fine as far as background noise goes.
