Andor Season 2

Release Year

After finishing my rewatch of season one, I came in extremely hyped for this season. Pretty solid, but definitely a big dropoff from the phenomenal first season.

Story

Solid but not great. The main plot between the Empire and the Rebellion is well developed in a way that gets from Andor season 1 to Rogue One, so that's the important part. The biggest subplot is aslo interesting, but there were a lot of interesting possibilities left on the table.

Spoilers

Unlike season 1, there were not a variety of interesting stories combined. It felt like the season was setting up for the main conflict on Ghorman, which means some episodes dragged. Way too many scenes regarding Cassian and Bix when that didn't really affect the show, and not nearly enough time focused on Syril's growing disillusionment with the Empire and Dedra.

Characters / Acting / Dialogue

Even minor characters were brilliantly developed and built in the first season, and it seems like the writers moved away from that in season 2 There's not a lot of new, interesting characters or layers to the returning cast, and it felt like at least one character was much less enjoyable this time around. That being said, most of the characters that were so lovingly crafted in the first season are still here, so that's a big plus.

Spoilers

Every time Bix came on screen I cringed. They drew out her psychological problems until it was boring, and the only character we really got to know more this season was Kleya. Syril, who I think was the most interesting character of the season, was killed off in a super unsatisfying way that undercut a lot of the tension between him and Dedra. I was also disappointed that they skipped the entire relationship building between Cassian and K2SO. All around, it wasn't great.

Drama / Fun

A much slower season than the first one, but it is still a higher-quality Star Wars production that uses great characters and strong writing.

Audio / Visual / Other

The production value is still great. Beautiful visuals, a big budget well spent.
