Weapons

Multiple friends recommended Weapons, so the wife and I decided to give it a shot. It’s not a particularly scary horror movie, and there is (thankfully) not much gore, and it veers into comedy at points. I didn’t know what to expect, which was the right way to walk into this one.

The premise is simple – a bunch of kids go missing in the middle of the night, and nobody knows why. It ends up being more of a setting than a premise, as the movie switches between perspectives of various characters that are somewhat related to the plot. Some of the stories feel like they don’t advance the plot at all, but they are all engaging. The acting is solid, even if it is hard to care too much about any of the characters. The plot is kept a mystery in a pleasing way, and the movie delivers on all of its promise at the end.

It’s not a deep film, there’s nothing that will really stick with me or stand out, but I highly enjoyed my time watching it. The movie moves quickly through a crazy mix of intriguing, serious, and funny scenes in a way that kept my attention throughout. I’ll call it great and give it an 8.
