After watching the extended cut of both Batman v. Superman and the Justice League, I can say with all kinds of confidence that I am not a Zack Snyder fan. I think those movies were horribly written and a complete editing failure. This was somewhat of a surprise to me, as I had, previously, seen Watchmen. Although Watchmen did not get nearly as much advertising or hype, I always thought highly of it. Even though I now know that Zack Snyder is not a genius, he still made at least one excellent movie.
It’s crazy to me that the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings are so low. Jackie Earle Haley’s performance as Rorshach is excellent, and the rest of the cast is solid. The characters have vast differences in abilities, motivations, and personal pasts that it makes me want to know more about how they used to function as a team, particularly the members who have less developed back stories. If there was a prequel to this movie I would absolutely get in line.
The story is also way above my normal expectation for a Superhero movie, particularly one set in the DC universe. There is an intriguing mystery, plenty of meat in the middle and a resolution that I have caught myself thinking about on occasion since the last time I saw the movie.
This movie is excellent. I give it a 9.
