The Flash

As I continue to march through the DC universe, I chose the Flash next. After Justice League, I had some seriously low expectations. I didn’t intentionally see it when it came out because DC movies are usually bad, but apparently I caught more of it than I thought while my wife watched it in the room with me a few years ago. Even though the movie wasn’t new to me and I wanted to hate it, I ended up enjoying this more than any other DC film I’ve seen in this current binge.

The movie starts out feeling like it is going to be a bit too much, as they play up Ezra Miller being annoying and the Flash being goofy for the first scene or two. They were pretty entertaining, but after watching the original Batman and Superman movies I have a fear of more campy DC films. The movie settled down and ended up pulling off being genuinely amusing and pretty successfully dramatic, which is not an easy feat. There aren’t a lot of real characters, but Miller does a good job of playing the main character(s) and Keaton puts on his best Batman performance in the limited scenes he appears in.

The story didn’t draw me in, as it felt like a cheesy ripoff of stuff from Marvel, but it was actually well done. All in all, an unexpectedly great movie and it gets my first official 8 from the DC universe.
