Sing

While traveling across the country with the two year old, we needed to dig back into the well for some entertainment. Without access to Disney, we ended up choosing Sing. Sing’s job was to entertain our child, and it did that. As far as my viewing experience, it could have been worse, but it could have been a lot better.

The characters are all animals, which is great for my kid. Other than that, very few of them are likable. I think the foreign girl group is supposed to be a bunch of Red Pandas, and I am annoyed that this movie made me dislike red pandas in any way. The main character, played by McConaughey, is basically the snake oil salesman trope. He’s not only impossible to root for, but also irritating on screen. I could go on, but there’s no point because the characters and plot do not matter. This movie is about animals singing pop songs and dancing, and if you want any more than that you will be disappointed.

It’s hard to rate given that it accomplishes the goal of pleasing kids, but I can’t give this any better than a 4 out of 10.
