He Who Fights With Monsters Book 2

With how easy to read this series is, I flew through this next book in under two days. It’s also an excellent change of pace from watching TV as something to do when feeding and soothing a cranky baby.

The second book of the series is more of the same as the first series, but it gets knocked a little bit for not adding anything new and exciting. Jason’s got a team now, so I’d hope for the interpersonal dialogue to get more interesting, but we’re moving in the wrong direction. We get some new, interesting supporting characters, but the primary protagonists are mostly ignored. No new conflicts, relationships, drama, or really anything… not ideal.

That being said, I still read this book in two days for a reason. It’s very light reading, and the plot and writing are entertaining enough to carry a lot of weaknesses. If anything, reading this book makes me tempted to give the previous book a higher rating, as I can acknowledge that this one is noticeably worse and yet I’m still calling it solid and giving it a 6. Any book that I want to read this quickly is doing something right, even if the most noteworthy aspects are what it’s doing wrong.
