As I continue my Audible listen-turned-reread of the Cradle series, I just finished the 11th book out of 12. The second to last book of a long series is usually a bit of a slog, as all the setup necessary for the conclusion needs to be established. Wight does a decent job of making this book have its own plot points, but for the most part there is no reason for anyone to read this book if they were not going to read the next one.
In addition to this being an incomplete story, there is also a lot of the not so fun to read Abidan storyline. Annnnd, two of the better characters in the series, Eithan and Dross, are not used to their full potential. I also continue to wish for more scenes with Lindon’s family and other members of the Wei clan, to tie his progress back to where he started from.
On the plus side, the Silent King is a good villain. I enjoy the more relatable villains we get in earlier books more, but for a “force of evil” type character he’s fun to read about.
All in all, this is one of the weaker books in the series. It’s still fine, and gets a 5.
