It was my wife’s movie pick. She loves horror movies, and I generally hate the gross slasher type of horror, so I was hoping this would be more of a dark-horror type of movie. Instead, this may be the grossest movie I can remember seeing. The director is somewhat of a savant of making even meals incredibly disturbing to watch. I had to avert my eyes so often during this movie, it might as well have been a podcast.
There are basically only three characters in this film, and they are paper thin. The main character is an aging Hollywood star who hates her body, then there is the gross male TV executive who only likes pretty young women, and a pretty young woman who likes being pretty. That’s pretty much the extent of the characters. Dennis Quaid is somewhat amusing in his role, but there isn’t much for Demi Moore or Margaret Qualley to do.
As far as the story goes, it is kind of an interesting premise. Fargeat, the writer/director had a choice of making this more of an emotional horror or a grotesque horror, and chose poorly. I’m calling this a bad movie and giving it a 3, and only going that high because my wife somehow enjoyed it.
