Squid Game Season 3

I did not want to watch this season of Squid Game. I thought the first season was fine, and the second season was pretty mediocre. However, my wife wanted to watch season 3, so here I am. If you were a huge fan of the first two seasons, then go ahead and take my thoughts with a huge grain of salt.

This season is terribly slow, and for no reason. It felt like one hour of story dragged out over six hours. It’s really just the final portion of season 2, but extended into its own season to make more money. There are very few games played, and beyond that there are two subplots that are neither interesting nor relevant.

The focus is instead on these characters, but with a break between seasons 2 and 3, it’s hard to remember why we are supposed to care about them any more. Even if I did care about the characters, all of them have giant monologues and dialogues about their dilemmas, to the point where I am just rooting for the show to end.

Unfortunately, it looks like there will be a fourth season, but it would be hard for it to be as bad as this one. 3 out of 10.

Spoilers

The ending was pretty nonsensical, which is crazy given how long they built up towards it. First, the main character won’t kill bad guys in the middle of the night, because he’s a good guy. Then, on the second tower, instead of accepting the deal that keeps him and the baby alive and the most other lives, refuses and demands to draw lots. Maybe because he’s supposedly a good guy? Instead, he forces a fight where almost everyone dies, including the guy he was sort of protecting. THEN, on the last island, he’s standing next to the trigger to start the game, yet doesn’t touch it for absolutely no reason, leading to completely foreseeable results.

The ending was a good summation for the laziness that went into all facets of this season.
