He Who Fights with Monsters Book 5

I’ve got this book and one more left from my highly questionable decision to purchase five books at once. You got me Amazon Kindle, you got me. I’m also not positive about whether I might even buy another – this series is such a huge quality rollercoaster. Books 1 and 4 were great, book 3 was horrible, and 2 and 5 are just fine.

I feel like I can copy the review from book 2 on over here. There’s a serious decline from the previous book, a lot less focus on character development and story, and a ramping up of mind-numbing plot and battle scenes. Even at his best, this writer is not great at dialogue and character work, but it is still the most interesting part of these stories. As soon as a battle scene starts, with random character abilities being thrown out and described, I start skimming until I can get through the mess.

There is no way to survive listening to this book on Audible, but if you have the ability to skim, it is fine. I’ll give it a 5/10 for the written version, but it’d be at best a 1 or 2 as an audio book.
