Jurassic World: Rebirth

I begrudgingly sat down for this movie as it was my wife’s pick, knowing that it could always have been worse. Her Hulu algorithm recommendations are a constant reminder on how painful her movie pick could be. A Jurassic World sequel was unlikely to be great, but I knew I was getting at least a standard action/adventure film and some dinosaurs.

I was half right. For some reason, all the dinosaurs in this franchise are now mutants? It feels like they’ve moved into the Godzilla universe. All I want are some classic dinos, but that is apparently too much to ask. There is some standard action movie stuff at least, which is fine.

The characters are all bad xerox copies from the first movie, with some substandard action heroes. There is one character development scene in this movie, where ScarJo and Ali just talk about their backstories. Then the director decided that was all done, back to whatever it is we do here. I’m assuming all the decent actors just did this for a paycheck, because the cast is solid but there is no room for actual acting.

It’s a mediocre movie. There’s no reason to see this, it gets a 4 for the cast and big budget.

Spoilers

I kept waiting for at least some plot twist to separate the movie from its predecessors. Would ScarJo sacrifice herself to save a child? Would the bad guy win in the end? What in the world is going to make this movie anything other than a worse version of every other Jurassic Park/World movie?

The answer was nothing. Zero memorable things would happen. I forgot this movie the moment that it ended.
