Air

After a string of DC movies, I was desperate for a break from action, adventure, and superhero stuff. I chose to watch Air, a movie I saw once before and found mildly disappointing. This time around, I knew that the film had almost no basketball or Michael Jordan, and found the film a lot more enjoyable since I knew what I was getting into.

The plot is the story of how Air Jordans were created. I’m not a shoe guy, so I don’t have any real interest in the shoes, but I do love a good piece of dramatized history. The film does a good job of walking through the storyline from Nike’s perspective, although I would have loved some more conversations from the Jordans’ perspective. It’s possible that the Jordans were not all that forthcoming about how this played out from their end, but it is noticeable how little of a presence Michael has in the film.

The acting is solid all around, and the characters all end up being likeable. There’s not much that is truly amazing here, but I haven’t had a movie I enjoyed watching this much in weeks. I’m going to call it the non-DC bump, and recognize that I enjoyed Air more than I should. With some self control, I’m only giving it a 7. It’s a good movie, but I can’t justify calling it great.
